Communicating is a tool for thinking.
We’ve all experienced the phenomenon of trying to explain something to someone only to realize you don’t understand it as well as you thought. In the best cases, you can even gain a better understanding of a point, from the process of trying to convey it.
Text is an amazing way of communicating. It neutralizes much of the impulsivity of an argument. It naturally encourages you to reflect on what you have to say, and hone your logic. It makes you accountable for what you’re saying and best of all – you can do it all by yourself.
It’s also the most accessible form of communication. The most robust. It’s the least dependent on the medium or the format. I can write my post in my Notion app on my laptop, and post it on this WordPress site. Everyone can read on practically every device with a screen, and I can print it into a physical book to share with everyone. This book will be a piece of information that is completely stand-alone. Google, Microsoft, and the whole internet could be shut down tomorrow and the book wouldn’t know.
I want to use this platform to communicate my thoughts. Hopefully, it’ll help me find out what I don’t understand, and help me to know my own thoughts and opinions better. It also might be useful to other people, which will be awesome. But really, I’ll probably gain the most out of this.
